A roof which slopes backwards towards the house needs a box gutter between it and the house to collect rainwater and prevent it from either setting at the junction or seeping into the house, the conservatory or both. This arrangement makes more elaborate roof shapes achievable and makes it possible to build a conservatory with a pitched roof even when the adjoining property's eaves seem too low.

Bungalows require special consideration because if a lean-to is attached it has to be a specially developed low-pitched version. However, by replacing the existing guttering with an aluminium box gutter any of the other designs could be installed onto a bungalow.

Also, by incorporating aspects of each of the normal designs you could have a truly individual building.
